Between the Lions: "When Two Vowels Go Walking"
This video is so upbeat that at the end of the song I found myself smiling and bouncing to the music. Once my students have learned the vowels which most of them should know from kindergarten, this would then be my next topic to go over with the class. The children will learn words that have a silent vowel while having fun listening to the song and seeing fun interactions. I showed my two 10 year old kids that I babysit this video and they were singing the song the whole night! That is when I knew that this video would be perfect for my 1st grade classroom.
Silly Sally the Clown-Manners Matters March-Kids Song
I would use this video for the first day of school. It goes over manners, consideration and responsibility all while marching. Not only would I have the children watch the video, I would have the children march around the classroom as well. It not only will teach them about manners, but might allow them to feel more comfortable starting a new school year. This song is great and I can definitely see myself using it more than once in my 1st grade class. I also love how the video not only shows small kids doing the march but "big" kids as well. Hopefully, that way my students will understand that having manners should last forever and not just when your're a kid.
Adding and Subtracting Song- (Add means put together... Subtract me...
This video would be great for introducing addition and subtraction in my first grade class. It has a contagious tune that kids will enjoy and will hopefully sing while they are solving math problems. I love that it gives examples using cute animals and goes slow enough for the children to figure out by themselves. I would use this in my teaching to give the children an idea of what addition and subtraction is and go from there with fun activities to enhance their love for math.
